3 Most Common Overlooked Tasks For Homeowners
Ways to Improve Your Home
Spring cleaning is upon us! Soon enough, days will be longer and temperatures will be warmer. This is usually the time homeowners get creative and productive finding ways to maintain and improve the quality of their home. We know how much our customers enjoy ‘Do It Yourself’ projects and tips so we came up with these 3 simple guidelines to get you and your home on the right track!
#1 Change Your Air Filter
Your heating and air unit should always contain a clean air filter! Take note of the air filters condition when you change it out, this will determine how often you should change the filter. Some homes require changing the filter more often than others, remember every home is different and it is important to be knowledgeable of yours.
#2 Minimize Moisture
Mold and mildew thrive in moist areas, they can also make you and your family very sick!
Keeping humidity levels below 50% is crucial in maintaining the balance in your home. Make sure to keep damp areas, such as the bathroom, dry and ventilated. This will prevent mold, dust mites and cockroaches from invading your space.
Using a humidifier in the winter months and a dehumidifier in the summer months will have a significant role in keeping the moisture levels in your home in the proper range. Your family’s health is the most important reason to minimize moisture.
#3 Regularly Sanitize Floors
Much of the dust and dirt that your family breathes in enters on foot. Reducing the amount of dust and dirt in your home and in the air you breath requires tedious effort on your part. Here are a few basic tips.
Keep floor mats at every entrance of your home.
Run the vacuum cleaner over floors and rugs regularly.
Look to purchase a vacuum with a HEPA filter to remove more dust and dirt than a standard vacuum.
Sweep hardwood floors several times per week and mop at least once throughout the week.
Using products such as Lysol to clean and sanitize your floors will lessen the amount of dust and dirt that enters your home and airways. Another great alternative for homes with all or mostly all tile or hardwood floors is to use a steam cleaner such as Shark. Whatever product you choose to use is entirely up to preference. The important thing is to keep a routine.
